Corsair Description:
Descend from street level into the depths of this Anchorage classic, established in 1979. The ceiling, festooned with rope and wooden pulleys, invokes an old-world "ship" feel. Formal high-backed booths offer privacy and the sense of being in a Sinatra-era hideaway. The food---ranging from salmon and poultry to lamb and beef---was fine, but not exceptional. Since the Corsair's owner is well-known for his German background, ordering the "specialty dish" of beef and onions with spätzle, not on the regular menu, seemed like the right move. Alas, it was disappointing, with the noodles more like everyday pasta than authentic, homemade German spätzle. We do recommend the french fries (not offered on the regular menu). While there is no published children's menu, the chef may whip up something if requested. Desserts include crème brûlée and a chocolate mousse. A redeeming feature: The wine menu here is extensive with something for everyone.
