Jens' Restaurant Description:
Rich red walls and jewel-toned artwork set the stage for this gem in the center of Anchorage. Ignore the strip mall setting and prepare to be tucked in at a white-clothed table for a lovely meal. Like his Danish forefathers, Jens Hansen runs a mighty fine ship, which includes a topnotch, knowledgeable waitstaff, some of whom have been working here for a decade or two. Each season, Hansen peppers his menu with new items featuring regional specialties from his world travels. Our standby favorite is the pan-seared foie gras on wild mushrooms in puff pastry. We also suggest the Prime rib-eye steak and the pan-fried Hawaiian mahi mahi accented with orange blossom-scented crème fraîche and chopped tarragon. The daring will try the Danish specialty dessert, Rodgrod med flode (berry pudding served with cream), but we opt for the classic cheese and fruit plate matched with after-dinner wine. The wine bar is more casual than the restaurant, decorated with the wooden wine box tops imprinted with the logos of many different vineyards. Wine aficionados take note: don't miss Hansen's signature event---a Beaujolais Nouveau party on the third Thursday each November featuring 160 wines from around the world.
