Firetap Alehouse Description:
Firetap Alehouse is a study in neutrality: the surroundings won't draw your attention away from your table or booth, so bring some colorful companions. Tables in the wide open space are accented by tiny, decorative splashes of color, but these are swallowed up by the gray "beigeness" of the high-ceilinged room. The menu is oddly vast making extensive use of the highly-touted Firedeck oven. Start with the Macho Nachos---blue corn chips, cheese, beans, jalapeños and (optional) pulled pork on one half, and chorizo on the other half---served with guacamole and sour cream. Service tends to be slow, even without a crowd. Our choice of house-made brews was a chilled signature "oak aged" Red Hot Mama beer. There's also a full bar mixing cleverly named Alaskan specialty drinks; the top choices include Love on the Mudflats, a martini shaken with Alaska Permafrost Vodka, Chambord, peach schnapps and pineapple juice.
