Azuma Sushi & Teppan Description:
Considering the joint was once a diner, Azuma could be a lot harder on the eyes. In its current incarnation as a sushi bar and teppan grill, serenity reigns in shades of jade and gray. In keeping with the décor, the best items are the simplest, from grilled salmon to classic sashimi and veggie tempura that's light and exceedingly crisp, all beautifully presented. Purists may balk at much of the maki, highly sauced and stuffed with everything from fried fish to green chile tempura (an Albuquerque anomaly)---but non-sticklers will get a kick out of the playful combos. Half of the restaurant is devoted to chef-manned teppan tables, where a lively (indeed, often noisy) mood prevails.
