When Paul's Monterey Inn was built, the Northeast Heights was the glamorous eastern edge of Albuquerque and the steakhouse was king among dining establishments. Now the area is showing its age---but Paul's appeal is timeless. The dining room is dimly lit and filled with cushy deep red leatherette booths, and the prime rib, crab legs and New York strip steaks are still the stuff of red-blooded American indulgence. Indeed, all the hand-cut meat at Paul's is top quality. Naturally, it is still accompanied by iceberg lettuce salads mixed with cherry tomatoes as well as house-baked bread. And don't forget the New York-style cheesecake for dessert.
